The layout of the plant can be defined as a procedure for setting factory facilities by utilizing the area in an optimal manner to support the smooth production process. Factory layout settings that can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of production so that the capacity and quality of planned production levels can be achieved by the most economical cost. The types of plant layout include :
1. Production Line Product (Product Layout),
Based on production flow, so that the machinery and production facilities are governed by the principle of “machine after machine” without regard to type of machine used.
2. Functional Layout (Process Layout),
Where the arrangement and placement of machinery and production equipment that has the same type in one section.
3. Materials Fixed Location Product Layout (Fixed Position Layout),
Where the machine and the operator moves toward the planned product will be made, especially for heavy and not easily moved.
4. Product Family Layout (Group Technology Layout),
Where the grouping is based on the similarity of the machine process through which every product, or part family.
Material handling process is one important thing in planning in planning the layout of production facilities, because these activities will determine the relationship between one production facility with other facilities. Based on the formulation made ??American Material Handling Society (AMHS), material handling can be expressed as the art and science that involves the handling (handling), displacement (moving), packaging (packaging), storage (storing), as well as control (controlling) of the material.
